The firm brings together lawyers and consultants whose training and experience were built around disaster events, mass litigation and harm assessment. The profiles are complementary, spanning academic research, contentious practice, technical analysis and methodology design, which allows a single problem to be addressed from each of the angles it demands.
The firm is led by Karina Denari Gomes de Mattos, holder of a master's degree and a doctorate in law, who has worked in disaster law since 2019, when she joined the Rio Doce Project at Fundação Getulio Vargas and contributed to the main outputs of its socio-economic assessment, including the damage matrix. She supervises Field Projects on the Disaster Law course at FGV Direito Rio, researches with the disaster studies group at FGV Direito SP and within an international research project with the University of Bergen. She was the first lecturer on the Disaster Law programme of the Brazilian Bar Association's national law school (ESA/OAB) and is a guest lecturer at USP-Ribeirão Preto, PUC-RS and the Public Prosecution Service Law School of Goiás.
